Hudson’s RapidPick SP is a single-pin version of Hudson’s widely-acclaimed RapidPick MP multi-pin colony-picker and re-arrayer. Like the RapidPick Complete and RapidPick Lite, the RapidPick SP has all the features needed by users in today’s molecular biology environment. The RapidPick SP has been designed to meet the needs of labs that need automated colony-picking and accurate data-handling, but whose throughput needs can be met by its medium-throughput productivity.

The RapidPick SP has all the colony-picking and colony-handling features of our other RapidPick models, and is designed for medium-throughput, typically 250 colonies per hour. The average inoculation rates of the SP are over 99%. The major competitors use batch picking so there is a delay in placing colonies into the destination plate. The delay may weaken the E. coli or other bacterial colonies or cause death.
This microbial colony picker’s small footprint saves lab space. The RapidPick SP fits easily on most lab benchtops, and is ideal for use in microbiome research picking inside anaerobic chambers. The RapidPick SP colony Picker is perfect for microbiota research in Coy Chambers.
The imaging system, picking pin and sterilization system on the RapidPick-SP is the same as the imaging system, picking pin and sterilization system on the standard RapidPick. The differences are the plate loading and the number of pins used to pick samples.
The wash and sterilization system has been used on the picking system for over 10 years. Multiple customers have tested the sterilization of the system with PCR and there has never been an issue with contamination after the heater.
There is no need to change the pins for picking and reformatting applications. The RapidPick SP makes the change in software and uses the same pins. Larger diameter pins are available if desired. The standard pins transfer ~50nl of liquid. The system can be set up for multiple transfers from the same source if needed or for pooling multiple samples to a single well.
Using the RapidPick SP, users can manually load a colony plate and a media-filled target plate, then start the automated picking through an easy operator interface on the instrument’s control computer. Hudson’s RapidPick designed to pick from petri dishes, Nunc™ Omnitray ™ or any SBS plates, including: 1, 6, 8, 24, 48 and 96-well plates. They will inoculate SBS 1, 24, 96, 384, 1536 deepwell and standard height microplates. The SP includes barcode scanners to identify barcodes on each of the source colony plate and the target growth plate, if the user’s plates are barcoded. Then, the transfer data is saved using these barcodes to identify the resulting picked colonies. If the user’s plates are not barcoded, the data will be saved in sequential order. The system is fully compatible with Hudson’s PlateCrane EX robotic arm and SoftLinx scheduling software, already installed on the RapidPick-SP is ready to go for integration of the plate handling arm and stacks. Advanced integration with other instruments as part of a complete molecular biology workcell is easily done. Software Plug-Ins are available to communicate with all Hudson Robotics instruments and over 200 instruments from other manufactures such as LiCONiC incubators, media dispensers, robotic arms and more.

The Hudson SOLO™ is a low cost, flexible and easy-to-use automated pipettor. Available in single, 8 and 12 channel pipette options the SOLO automated pipetting robot can be programmed to do anything expected of a hand-held pipettor, with greatly improved precision (see the Specifications tab):
Simply set up the liquid handling steps in intuitive SoloSoft control software and go. Equipped with a broad dynamic volume range and the ability to handle reactions in a sterile environment. It is about half the cost of other laboratory robotics platforms and has options of 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 microplate nests on the deck. The SOLO will fit into most biological safety cabinets, anaerobic chambers and fume hoods.
The SOLO can be loaded and operated manually, but is also compatible with robotic arms from most manufacturers, including our PlateCrane EX. The SOLO liquid handler was developed to meet the growing need throughout the research, pharmaceutical and clinical communities for a high resolution compact robotic pipettor. The SOLO’s liquid handling provides researchers with walkaway freedom, a small footprint, and easy to use SoloSoft software which is closely linked to our SoftLinx™ software for data tracking and scheduling, plus improved efficiency and decreased cost of continuous unattended operation systems.
The SOLO – multi-tip is available with either an 8-tip pipette head or 12-tip pipette head. The SOLO is standard with a 6 position deck. No worries if you need to transfer samples quickly from plate to plate and then other times do a serial dilution across the plate. The SOLO easily adapts without any tools to both heads. Use the 12-tip head to finish plate to plate transfers 50% faster than the 8-tip head, remove the head and add the 8 position head for easy serial dilutions.
Users who wish to cherry-pick from individual wells can use either the single-tip SOLO (as shown in the video clip below) or the multi-tip configuration. The SOLO multi-tip (both 8-channel and 12-channel) can work with just 1 tip, several tips, or all the tips without any issues. There is no need to switch to a single tip pipette head.
The SOLO mutli-tip offers a broad pipetting range. The mechanical drive and software controls of the pipette head allow the SOLO to push the boundaries of pipetting performance. With CVs of less than 3% across the entire pipetting range users can save valuable time and expense by using a single pipette head for both multi-tip and single-tip operations.

In addition to the wide spectrum of columns for mycotoxin analysis, LCTech offers columns for Solid Phase Extraction (SPE).
In analytical laboratories, samples are commonly cleaned via SPE columns in order to obtain clean solutions for subsequent analysis or to concentrate the analyte. A multitude of available SPE columns are made of plastic. This type of column cannot be used for all applications due to interactions with the analyte or release of impurities from the synthetic material.
LCTech offers glass columns (unfilled or filled and in different sizes) for these applications and also supplies the appurtenant inert accessories, such as stainless steel needles, glass fiber filters, and caps.
Additionally, LCTech developed the affinity column BioteX for biotin / vitamin B7 analysis in the framework of vitamin analysis.

The TLC Scanner 4 is the most advanced workstation for densitometric evaluation of TLC/HPTLC chromatograms and other planar objects.
The TLC Scanner 4 is a scanning densitometer. It measures the reflection of separated compounds in absorption and/or fluorescence mode. Controlled by visionCATS software the TLC Scanner 4 enables quantitative evaluation of the generated densitometric data. The spectral range of light from 190 to 900 nm is available for selecting single or multiple wavelengths for scanning densitometry. Detection can thus be fine-tuned to match the spectral properties of the analyte to its optimized specificity and sensitivity of the detection.

The visual presentation of the complete chromatogram showing all samples and standards side by side is one of the most convincing arguments for (High-Performance) Thin-Layer Chromatography. No other chromatographic technique can directly express the result as a color image and make it available for visual evaluation.
To reproducibly acquire and preserve best quality images of TLC/HPTLC chromatograms under different illuminations this high-end imaging and documentation system is available. With its digital CCD camera a maximum resolution of 82 μm on the plate is obtained.
For electronic image acquisition the camera – like the human eye – captures polychromatic visible light. Under white light illumination it is the light reflected from the layer background. Under long-wavelength UV light (366 nm) it is the light emitted by fluorescent substances. When short-wavelength UV light (254 nm) is used, substances absorbing UV 254 appear as dark zones, provided the layer contains a fluorescence indicator (fluorescence quenching).
The TLC-MS Interface 2 enables users to directly analyze zones from TLC and HPTLC plates by Mass Spectrometry. A substance confirmation can be obtained in less than a minute.
The elution-based TLC-MS Interface 2 is a highly convenient and versatile instrument allowing for rapid and contamination-free elution of TLC/HPTLC zones with direct transfer to a mass spectrometer.
Through the pioneering concept of hyphenating High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry unequivocal substance identification is possible. The TLC-MS Interface 2 can be installed plug & play with any LC-MS system without adjustments or mass spectrometer modifications. Depending on the MS system, a substance can be identified within a minute via its mass spectrum, or for an unknown substance zone, the respective sum formula can be obtained. Furthermore, interesting zones can be eluted into vials for further investigations with, e.g., NMR, (ATR-)FTIR, ESI-MS, and MALDI-MS.
The chromatogram zones are eluted from the HPTLC plate with methanol or another suitable solvent with the flow speed appropriate for the LC-MS system. The round elution head is used for circular zones and the oval elution head for zones in the form of bands. After elution the eluate is either directly transferred to the mass spectrometer or collected in a sample vial for further offline analysis.
The TLC-MS Interface 2 features a modified elution head and an easily accessible, exchangeable filter, arranged in front of the valve. Cleaning is facilitated as compared to the previous version, making it highly efficient. By pushing a button, the elution path is cleaned of matrix particles with compressed air, increasing the lifetime of the filter and preventing the system from becoming blocked. These filters can be easily replaced without any modification to the elution head.
Plate positioning is significantly simplified: together with the positioning scale and the adjustable plate-stopper, the integrated crosshair laser enables accurate and reproducible positioning of the plate. Alternatively the coordinates determined by the TLC Visualizer 2 or the TLC Scanner 4 can be used to precisely position the HPTLC plate.
